For over 125 years, the Woodbridge Fire Department volunteer firefighters have been serving the residents of Woodbridge and Sewaren.  Since 1929, our volunteers have stood ready with our career counterparts to provide fire suppression, hazard mitigation, and rescue services to the public.

We deliver a high level of customer service through training and education. Primarily responding from home, our volunteers are from all walks of life, background, and education.

Questions You May Have

This is a state required 198 hour course of study that covers basic firefighting, hazardous materials, and CPR. Courses are offered at night (3 nights/week, 7:30-10:30 - 5 months) and during the day (M-F, 8-4 - 6 weeks). The Middlesex County Fire Academy is just over Route 9/35 bridges in Sayreville.
In order to maintain good standing and receive most of the benefits we offer, we require that members make 20% of alarms and 60% of drills. This means about 12 alarms per month and about 8 drills per year, about 3 hours per week of your time, on average.
No! Since emergencies can happen at any time, typically members respond when available in their personal vehicles when there is an alarm. You are always welcome to spend time at the firehouse and ride out on the rigs.
